On Thursday night, Alex Cobb (9-7) will make the start for the Tampa Bay Rays against New York Yankees right-hander Michael Pineda (3-4), who will try to end his two-game losing streak.

Alex Cobb deserved to get the win in his start against the Baltimore Orioles last week, but he ended up with just a no decision. He pitched seven scoreless innings in that start and gave up six hits while walking one batter and striking out six. Cobb now has a very good 2.83 ERA on the year and he has only given up nine home runs in 140 innings.

Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira has four hits in nine plate appearances against Cobb with a home run and two RBI. Outfielder Ichiro Suzuki is just 3-for-17 against him with no walks and three strikeouts.

Last Friday, Michael Pineda pitched well against the Kansas City Royals, but he still ended up saddled with the loss. He gave up just one unearned run in that outing while walking no one and striking out four. Through nine starts, Pineda has only walked four batters in 50 innings of work and he now has a 1.80 ERA.

Rays shortstop Yunel Escobar is 3-for-9 against Pineda in his career with a double and an RBI. Third baseman Evan Longoria is hitless in four at-bats against the right-hander with two walks and two strikeouts.
