Tuesday night, the Tampa Bay Rays will give the ball to David Price as they face the New York Yankees and Hiroki Kuroda.  Price will be making his 18th start as Kuroda makes his 17th.

David Price got the win his last time out and that took his record to 6 – 7 with a 3.63 ERA.  In the win, Price gave up just a run (on a solo homer) and 5 hits in 8.1 innings as he walked a batter and struck out 11.  It was one of Price’s better efforts of the season and the 5th start where he struck out 10 or more.  It could be a turning point for the lefty as he chases last season’s 10 – 8 record and 3.33 ERA in 27 starts. 

In 2013, Price was 2 – 1 with a 3.00 ERA in 3 starts against the Yankees.  This season, Price has a loss and a no-decision against the Yankees in 2 starts after allowing 8 runs and 18 hits in 12 innings of work.

Hiroki Kuroda evened his record at 5- 5 with a 4.23 ERA after getting the win in his last outing.  In 6.1 innings of work, Kuroda surrendered 3 runs and 8 hits (including a homer) as he walked 2 and struck out 4.  His record really doesn’t reflect the quality of his pitching this season as he is getting the job done without overpowering hitters. In 2013, Kuroda struggled down the stretch as he compiled a record of 11 – 13 with a 3.31 ERA in 32 starts.

Last season, Kuroda lost both of his starts against the Rays.  This season he has a no-decision against Tampa Bay after allowing 3 runs and 7 hits in 5.2 innings.
