Tampa Bay Rays lefty Matt Moore will go up against Jason Vargas and the Kansas City Royals on Monday night in a game where both pitchers will be looking to get their first wins of the season. Moore picked up the loss in his first start of the season, but he didn't necessarily pitch poorly. He went 5.2 innings against the Toronto Blue Jays and gave up just two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four. The Rays' hitters didn't give him any support, so he was only partially at fault for the loss.

The one player in the Royals' lineup who has Moore's number is shortstop Alcides Escobar. In their previous matchups, Escobar has four hits in six at-bats, including a double and a home run.

Jason Vargas was even more unlucky than Moore in his first start of the season when he took the loss against the Detroit Tigers. Vargas was able to go seven innings in the losing effort, giving up just one run on five hits while striking out six. He did give up one home run, but he certainly pitched well enough to win the game.

Vargas does not like facing Ben Zobrist, who has nine hits, including four doubles, in 22 at-bats against the 31-year-old lefty. Vargas has done pretty well against Rays' star Evan Longoria, though, giving up just four hits in 17 matchups.
