The Kansas City Royals will host the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night at 8:10 p.m. from Kaufman Stadium. The Rays will look to get the win on the road behind their starting pitcher, 25-year-old Chris Archer, who has an 11-10 career record. Opposing Archer on the mound will be rookie Yordano Ventura, the 22-year-old from the Dominican Republic, who will be making his season debut.

Archer will be making his 2nd start of the season and will look to improve his record to 2-0. In his season debut, he threw 6 innings with just 2 earned runs allowed on 2 hits and 2 walks with 7 strikeouts. He threw 98 pitches after going deep into the count often. He will need to keep his pitches down so the team can save their bullpen. He doesn’t have a lot of experience against the current Royals, but has held them to a .238 average (5-for-21).

The Royals rookie Ventura made 3 starts in 2013 for a total of 15 1/3 innings. The Dominican Republic native recorded 11 strikeouts, allowing 13 hits and 6 walks while going 0-1. The team will be hoping to get big production and innings from Ventura this season. Much like with the Rays and Archer, high pitch counts from this young starter will lead to bullpen issues later in the season.
