Alex Cobb will be going for his fourth win of the year for the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night when he faces Drew Smyly and the Detroit Tigers.

On Sunday, Alex Cobb ended his two-game losing streak and picked up the win against the Baltimore Orioles on the road. He pitched five innings in that game and gave up four runs (three earned) on eight hits while striking out three batters and walking no one. Cobb is 3-6 on the year with a 4.20 ERA and he has struck out 56 batters in 64.1 innings.

Tigers catcher Alex Avila has four hits in seven at-bats against Cobb in his career with a double and an RBI. Outfielder Torii Hunter is 6-for-13 against him with a double and two RBI.

Left-hander Drew Smyly had his worst start of the year on Sunday when he was beaten by the Houston Astros on the road. He went just 2.1 innings in that start and allowed four runs on eight hits while walking two batters and striking out three. Smyly is now 4-7 on the year and he has struck out 65 hitters in 75.2 innings.

Rays outfielder Desmond Jennings has just one hit in his six at-bats versus Smyly with a triple and an RBI. None of the current Rays have been able to hit a home run off of the lefty yet.
