Friday night, David Price will take the hill for the Tampa Bay Rays as they square off against Brandon Workman and the Boston Red Sox.  Price will be making his 12th start as Workman makes his 2nd start and 5th appearance. 

David Price pitched to a no-decision his last time out and that left his record at 4 – 4 with an ERA of 4.42.  In his last outing, Price went 8 innings and gave up 5 runs on 5 hits (including a home run) while walking 2 and striking out 7.  If Price puts together a string of decent starts, he can improve on last season’s results when he went 10 - 8 with a 3.33 ERA in 27 starts.

In 2013, Price was 2 – 2 with a 2.48 ERA in 5 starts against the Red Sox.  Price’s last start was against the same Boston team that he will face on Friday.  If he can cut down the runs allowed, he might be able to post a win this time.

Brandon Workman comes into this start without a decision this season and fresh off his 1st start of the year. In that start, Workman allowed 3 runs on 5 hits (including a home run) in 5 innings as he walked 3 and struck out 3.  Workman had 3 starts and 17 relief appearances last season en route to a 6 – 3 record with a 4.97 ERA. 

During his rookie campaign in 2013, Workman was 0 – 1 with a 4.50 ERA in a start and a relief appearance against Tampa Bay.  He just faced the Rays in his first and only start of the year, so he should be able to immediately look back on what he did in that start and make the necessary changes needed to try and secure a win.
