Monday night the Tampa Bay Rays and Chris Archer will take on the Baltimore Orioles and Wei-Yin Chen.  Both pitchers will be making their third starts of the season.

Chris Archer had a solid outing his last time out even though he didn’t get the decision.  In 7 innings of work, he surrendered 6 hits and no runs while striking out 4 and walking 2.    The solid start pushed his ERA down to 1.38.   Last year, Archer went 9 – 7 in 23 starts with an ERA of 3.22. 

In 2013, Archer faced the Orioles twice and got a win with an ERA of 3.97.  Overall he has had great success against the Baltimore roster, holding them to a .170 batting average.   Baltimore’s Manny Machado owns a career .429 average with 3 hits in 7 at-bats and 2 RBIs.

Wei-Yin Chen comes into this one after his first win of the year in his last start.  Chen wasn’t great, but he had a lot of help after going 5 innings and giving up 4 runs on 9 hits (including a home run).  Last year, Chen started 23 games for the Orioles with a 7 – 7 record and a 4.07 ERA.

Chen faced the Rays 3 times in 2013 with a 1 – 0 record and an ERA of 3.18.  Tampa Bay’s Ben Zobrist has the most experience and the best results against Chen.  Zobrist is hitting .435 with 10 hits in 23 at-bats, a home run and 3 RBIs.
