Tuesday night, the Tampa Bay Rays will send Alex Cobb (9 – 6, 3.01 ERA) to the hill to face the Baltimore Orioles and Wei-Yin Chen (13 – 4, 3.76 ERA).  Cobb will make his 21st start as Chen makes his 25th.

Alex Cobb notched yet another victory in his last start. He hurled 7 innings of shutout ball and surrendered just 2 hits and 2 walks as he struck out 6.  Cobb has become a force on the hill for the Rays in recent weeks.  He hasn’t registered a loss since late June and is a stellar 7 - 0 in his last 10 starts.  In 2013, Cobb was just as effective as he posted an 11 – 3 record with a 2.76 ERA in 22 starts. 

Last season, Cobb was a perfect 2 – 0 with a 1.26 ERA in 2 starts against the Orioles. This season, he is 1 - 1 in 2 outings against Baltimore.

Wei-Yin Chen continued his string of solid starts by posting another win in his last outing.  In that victory, Chen allowed 3 runs on 6 hits (including a home run) in 7.1 innings.  He struck out 7 while walking just 1.  Even though Chen seems to allow 3 or more runs in each start, he finds ways to keep those runs from hurting him.  In his last 10 outings, Chen has compiled a 6 – 2 record.  Last season, he finished the year with a 7 – 7 record and a 4.07 ERA in 23 starts.

In 2013, Chen was 1 – 0 with a 3.18 ERA in 3 starts against the Rays.  This season, he is 1 - 1 against Tampa Bay in 3 starts.
