Thursday evening, the St. Louis Cardinals will send Adam Wainwright to the hill to face the Washington Nationals and Taylor Jordan.  Wainwright will be starting for the fourth time and Jordan will be making his third start.

Adam Wainwright is doing well in the early goings of the season.  His last start earned him his 2nd win of the season after he went 7 innings and gave up 4 runs on 7 hits while striking out 8.   Last season, Wainwright started 34 games and came away with a 19 – 9 record and an ERA of 2.94. 

In 2013, Wainwright won both of his starts against the Nationals, allowing 3 runs on 12 hits in 15.1 innings while striking out 14 and walking just 1.  Washington’s Adam LaRoche has 9 RBIs and 4 walks along with a .219 average against Wainwright.

Taylor Jordan’s 2nd major league season is producing mixed results. He is 0 – 1 in his two starts and his ERA is 4.76 already this early in the season.  He is striking out more batters per game but that means throwing more pitches and that could be a problem later in the season.

Last season, Jordan only started 9 games and none of them were against the Cardinals.  Without any past experience against the lineup, he will need a lot of support from his catcher and the rest of the pitching staff as well as some study of the scouting reports.
