Friday night, the St. Louis Cardinals will take the field behind Lance Lynn as they face the Toronto Blue Jays and Marcus Stroman. Lynn will make his 13th start as Stroman makes his 2nd start and 7th appearance.

Lance Lynn had a short outing his last time out and that led to a loss that dropped his record to 6 – 3 with an ERA of 3.48.  Lynn surrendered 7 runs on 8 hits in just 3.1 innings.  There was some concern that Lynn might have injured a knee, but there didn’t appear to be any damage.  If Lynn stays healthy, he should come close to 2013’s record of 15 – 10 and ERA of 3.97 in 33 starts.

Last season, Lynn didn’t face the Blue Jays but he has faced their lineup before.  And Lynn has done well against Toronto, holding them to a .214 average with just 6 hits and 3 RBIs in 28 at-bats.

Marcus Stoman improved his record to 2 – 0 with a 7.30 ERA after getting the win in his first start of the season.  Stroman had briefly been in the Majors but was sent back down before getting recalled from Triple-A a day before his first start.   In that start, Stroman allowed a run on 5 hits in 6 innings of work.  He struck out 6 without issuing a walk.  

None of Stroman’s appearances this season have been against the Cardinals but if he pitches as well as he did in his last start, he will have a shot at a win.
