Saturday afternoon, the St. Louis Cardinals will give the ball to Shelby Miller as they face the Toronto Blue Jays and Mark Buehrle. Both pitchers will be making their 13th starts of the season.

Shelby Miller picked up his 3rd straight loss in his last outing to drop to 6 – 5 with a 4.06 ERA.  In that start, Miller surrendered 4 runs on 7 hits (including a homer) in 7 innings as he walked 1 and struck out 2.  Miller seems to be on a steady decline after winning 6 of his first 7 starts.  He might not be able to match last season’s 15 – 9 record and 3.06 ERA in 31 starts.

In 2013, Miller didn’t face the Blue Jays and in his career, he has only faced one of Toronto’s hitters.  Juan Francisco is 0 for 4 against the young right-hander with 4 strikeouts.

Mark Buehrle got his 3rd straight win in his last start and that boosted his record to 10 – 1 with a 2.10 ERA.  In that outing, Buehrle pitched 8 shutout innings and allowed just 6 hits and a walk while striking out 3.  Buehrle has had just 2 bad starts this season and they resulted in a no-decision and a loss.   His numbers this season will easily surpass 2013’s when he went 12 – 10 with a 4.15 ERA in 33 starts.

Last season, Buehrle didn’t face the Cardinals and he has only opposed 5 of the current Cardinals in his career.  Jhonny Peralta has faced Buehrle 84 times and owns a career .298 average with 2 home runs and 10 RBIs.
