St. Louis Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright will be going up against Madison Bumgarner the San Francisco Giants in Game 5 of the NLCS on Thursday night.

Adam Wainwright made his second start of this postseason in Game 1 of the NLCS and took the loss against the Giants. He pitched 4.2 innings in that game and allowed three runs (two earned) on six base hits while walking three batters and striking out two. He is now 0-1 in these playoffs with an 8.00 ERA.

Giants outfielder Hunter Pence now has 15 hits in his 56 career at-bats against Wainwright with four doubles, three home runs and five RBI. One player who has struggled against the right-hander in his career is Gregor Blanco, who is just 3-for-23 against him with one walk and two strikeouts.

Madison Bumgarner made his third start of the postseason last Saturday when he beat the Giants in Game 1 of this series. He pitched 7.2 scoreless innings in that game and gave up just four hits while striking out seven batters and walking just one.

Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday has not done well against Bumgarner in his career, going 3-for-21 in their matchups with no extra-base hits and five strikeouts. After going 2-for-2 against the left-hander in Game 1, Jon Jay is now 8-for-16 against him in his career with three doubles and three RBI.
