On Tuesday afternoon, veteran right-hander John Lackey will make the 21st postseason start of his career when he and the St. Louis Cardinals face Tim Hudson and the San Francisco Giants.

In Game 3 of the NLDS last week, John Lackey beat pitched seven strong innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers and picked up the win. In that game, he gave up just one run on five base hits while walking one and striking out eight.

Lackey did not get a chance to face the Giants this season. Outfielder Hunter Pence has one hit in three career at-bats against the right-hander with a double and a strikeout. Third baseman Pablo Sandoval is 1-for-3 against him with no walks and one strikeout.

Tim Hudson ended up with a no decision in his outing against the Washington Nationals in Game 2 of the NLDS, but he pitched very well in that outing. He gave up just one run in 7.1 innings of work that day and he struck out eight batters while walking no one.

In one start against the Cardinals this season, Hudson pitched seven scoreless innings while walking two and striking out six. Veteran outfielder Matt Holliday is 9-for-26 against Hudson in his career with a double and five RBI. Catcher Yadier Molina has six hits in 15 at-bats against the right-hander with a double, five walks and five RBI.
