In the final game of the first series between two National League Central Division rivals, the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals will play at PNC Park on Sunday. The Pirates will be led into this game by starting pitcher Edinson Volquez while the Cardinals will be led by a 2013 19-game winner Adam Wainwright.

Volquez will be making his first start of the 2014 season after a tough Spring Training. He was scratched from his first start on Wednesday and will be looking to make his first start against a team filled with players that have done well against him. Matt Holliday has eight hits, including two home runs, while Mark Ellis has seven hits and a .923 OPS against the right hander. One of the best players on the Cardinals, Yadier Molina, has struggled against Volquez, going 3-for-21 with one home run and three RBIs.

Wainwright is considered by many to be one of the best pitchers of the past 10 years. Despite all of his success, he has been roughed up a bit by several of his rival players on the Pirates. Andrew McCutchen is batting .429 (12-for-28) with a 1.202 OPS, Russell Martin is hitting .409 (9-for-22) and Clint Barmes is batting .333 (7-for-21). As a complete unit, the current Pirates are batting .320 with six home runs and 23 RBIs.
