Tuesday night, the St. Louis Cardinals will give the ball to Lance Lynn (14 – 8, 2.78 ERA) as they square off against the Pittsburgh Pirates and Gerritt Cole (7 – 4, 3.69 ERA).  Lynn makes his 27th start as Cole makes his 16th.

In 2013, Lynn was 2 – 1 with a 5.60 ERA in 5 starts against the Pirates.  This season, he is 1 - 1 in 2 outings against Pittsburgh.

Gerritt Cole was solid in his last outing but still didn’t receive the decision.  Cole allowed just 2 runs and 5 hits in 7 innings of work. He walked 4 and struck out 6.  Although Cole has missed time this season due to injuries, he has managed to string together some decent starts.  In his last 10 starts, he is 5 – 2.  In 2013, Cole went 10 – 7, with a 3.22 ERA in 19 starts.

During his rookie campaign last season, Cole didn’t face the Cardinals.  But he has 2 starts against St. Louis this season and will bring a 1 – 1 record against the Cards into this meeting.
