Shelby Miller (8-9) will be going for his first win since the end of July when he and the St. Louis Cardinals go up against David Buchanan (6-7) and the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night.

Right-hander Shelby Miller gave up four runs to the San Diego Padres in his last start and ended up with a no decision. He went six innings in that outing and struck out five batters while walking a season-high six. Miller currently has a 4.25 ERA on the year and he has give up 8.4 hits per nine innings, which is the worst rate of his three-year career.

Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard has two hits in his three at-bats against Shelby Miller and is the only player on his team who has been able to hit a home run off of the right-hander.

On Sunday, David Buchanan lost his second game in a row when he was defeated by the San Francisco Giants on the road. He pitched 6.2 innings in that game and allowed three runs (two earned) on nine hits while walking one batter and striking out four. He now has a 4.25 ERA on the year and he has only walked 19 batters in 78.1 innings.

Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter is 1-for-3 against Buchanan in his career with a single and an RBI. None of the Cardinals have faced him more than three times.
