Veteran right-hander John Lackey (2-1) will be making his seventh start as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night when they face Mike Fiers (4-2) and the Milwaukee Brewers.

In his last start, John Lackey gave up five runs (two earned) against the Chicago Cubs at home and ended up with a no decision. He went 6.1 innings in that start and allowed nine hits while walking one and striking out six. Lackey has only walked 40 batters in 175 innings this year and currently has a 3.74 ERA.

Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun has three hits in seven plate appearances against Lackey with a double and a strikeout. Veteran Lyle Overbay is 12-for-33 against him with six doubles and six RBI.

Right-hander Mike Fiers lost a start for the first time in over a month on Sunday when he was defeated by the San Francisco Giants on the road. He gave up three earned runs in seven innings of work that day while striking out nine batters and walking two. Through nine starts, Fiers now has a 1.93 ERA and he has only given up 23 hits in 42 innings of work.

Catcher Yadier Molina has just one hit in eight at-bats against Fiers in his career with no walks and two strikeouts. Infielder Daniel Descalso is 2-for-6 against him with an RBI and no strikeouts.
