26-year-old Joe Kelly will be making his fourth start of the season for the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night when they go up against veteran Yovani Gallardo and the Milwaukee Brewers.

Joe Kelly last started for the Cardinals back on April 16 when he was defeated by the Milwaukee Brewers on the road. He pitched just four innings in that game, but he only gave up one unearned run on three hits while walking no one and striking out two. In three starts in the minors, Kelly has a 2.61 ERA.

Brewers All-Star outfielder Carlos Gomez has six hits in 17 at-bats against Kelly with two doubles, a triple and two RBI. Ryan Braun is just 3-for-12 against him with five strikeouts.

Yovani Gallardo went seven innings against the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday, but all he got out of that game was a no decision. He gave up two runs in that start and struck out three batters while walking no one. Gallardo has a 5-5 record with a 3.45 ERA on the season and he has been able to drop his walk rate to just 2.5 walks per nine innings.

Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday has 10 hits in his 33 at-bats against Gallardo in his career with a triple, four home runs and 10 RBI. Matt Carpenter is 5-for-15 against him with four doubles and three RBI.
