Justin Masterson (1-1) will be making his third start for the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night when they take on Nathan Eovaldi (6-6) and the Miami Marlins.

Big right-hander Justin Masterson was only able to make it through two innings against the Baltimore Orioles last Friday and ended up taking the loss. He gave up five earned runs on seven base hits in that game while walking three batters and striking out two. He now has a very high 5.94 ERA on the season, but he has been able to strike out 99 hitters in 106 innings.

Marlins catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia has four hits in four plate appearances against Masterson with two doubles and three RBI. None of the Marlins have been able to hit a home run off of the right-hander yet.

Nathan Eovaldi had one of his best starts of the year last week against the Cincinnati Reds on the road and came away with his sixth win of the season. He pitched eight scoreless innings in that game and struck out six batters while walking just one. His ERA dipped down to 3.99 with that win and he has only walked 1.8 batters per nine innings this year.

Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday has just one hit in six at-bats against Eovaldi with two walks and one strikeout. Matt Carpenter is 2-for-6 against him with a double, a triple and an RBI.
