Right-hander Adam Wainwright will get the ball for the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night when they take on Cy Young favorite Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1 of the NLDS.

Adam Wainwright had another fantastic season this year and he was able to cap it off by winning all five of his September starts. In 32 starts this year, the right-hander was 20-9 with a 2.38 ERA and a 1.031 WHIP. He struck out 7.1 batters per nine innings and leads the league with just 0.4 home runs given up per nine innings.

In one start against the Dodgers this year, Wainwright took the loss despite only giving up one run in eight innings of work. Outfielder Andre Ethier has done pretty well against Wainwright in his career, going 9-for-33 against him with three doubles and two home runs.

Clayton Kershaw should end up picking up his third Cy Young award in four years after another terrific season. He led the league in wins (21), ERA (1.77), WHIP (0.587) and strikeouts per nine innings (10.8). It was his best season yet and he capped it off with seven consecutive wins to finish the season.

Kershaw made two starts against the Cardinals this season and was 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA in those games. Outfielder Peter Bourjos has been able to get four hits in 11 at-bats against the left-hander with a home run and two RBI.
