Veteran right-hander John Lackey (2-2) will make his eighth start for the St. Louis Cardinals when they go up against Alfredo Simon (13-10) and the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night.

John Lackey had a rough start against the Milwaukee Brewers on the road last week and ended up taking the loss. He pitched six innings in that game and gave up six earned runs on nine hits while striking out six hitters and walking one. Lackey now has a 13-9 overall record this year and he has given up 191 hits in 181.2 innings of work.

Reds infielder Ramon Santiago is just 2-for-9 against Lackey in his career, but he has hit a home run off of him. Ryan Ludwick is 1-for-9 against the right-hander with two walks and three strikeouts.

Against the New York Mets last Friday, Alfredo Simon gave up six earned runs in just four innings and ended up taking the loss. He allowed eight base hits in that outing and he walked three batters while striking out five. Simon has only been able to strike out 5.9 batters per nine innings this season, but he does have a decent 3.52 ERA.

Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams is 2-for-4 against Simon in his career with a double, a home run and two RBI. Outfielder Matt Holliday is just 2-for-11 against him with three walks and two strikeouts.
