All-Star right-hander Adam Wainwright (19-9) will be going for his fifth win in a row for the St. Louis Cardinals when he faces Travis Wood (8-12) and the Chicago Cubs on Monday night.

Adam Wainwright pitched his league-leading third shutout of the season last week when he beat the Milwaukee Brewers at home. He gave up just seven hits in that game and walked two batters while striking out seven. Wainwright has only given up 10 home runs in 220 innings this year and he now has a very solid 2.45 ERA.

Cubs infielder Luis Valbuena has eight hits in 20 at-bats against Wainwright in his career with four doubles, a home run and two RBI. First baseman Anthony Rizzo is 8-for-24 against the right-hander with a home run and three RBI.

Travis Wood pitched six scoreless innings against the Cincinnati Reds last Monday, but all he finished with was a no decision. He gave up three hits in that start and struck out four batters while walking three. The left-hander now has a 4.86 ERA on the season and he has given up 182 hits in 168.2 innings of work.

Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina is 14-for-35 against Wood in his career with four doubles, three home runs and 12 RBI. Second baseman Mark Ellis is just 3-for-16 against him with a walk and a strikeout.
