The Mariners and Rangers both find themselves chasing Oakland in this young AL West season but one team can make headway over this four game series. Game two sees Blake Beavan (0-0) making his first start of the year for Seattle after being called up from the minor leagues to face Texas' Colby Lewis (0-0) who makes his first start since 2012 after recovering from extensive elbow issues.

Beavan's return comes as regular starter James Paxton goes to the DL with a lat strain. Beavan is 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA with AAA Tacoma as he aims to return to the majors full-time. Beavan has made 53 big league starts over three years but has just a 16-19 record to show for it.

Colby Lewis is the projected starter for Texas, coming back to MLB for the first time since July of 2012. The 34-year-old right-hander has had an injury riddled career but looks for one last gasp at major league success. He has started 114 games in his career and has so far posted a 44-44 record.

Lewis has started 14 games against the Mariners in his career going 6-4 with a 3.45 ERA. In April of 2012 Lewis did go 6.2 innings against Seattle while allowing 0 ER but the bullpen gave up 4 runs in the 8th and 9th to surrender the lead.
