Sunday afternoon, the Seattle Mariners will rely on the arm of Felix Hernandez as they face the Tampa Bay Rays and Chris Archer. Hernandez will make his 14th start of the year as Archer makes his 13th.

Felix Hernandez picked up his 5th straight win in his last outing to improve his record to 8 - 1 with a 2.57 ERA.  “King Felix” gave up just 2 runs on 8 hits in 7 innings of work without issuing a walk and striking out 8.  Hernandez has been on a tear as of last and he certainly should be able to beat his performance of last year when he went 12 – 10 with a 3.40 ERA in 31 starts.

In 2013, Hernandez didn’t face the Rays but he has faced them this season.  He started his current win streak with a win over the Rays after allowing 4 runs on 8 hits in 6.2 innings of work.

Chris Archer saw his record drop to 3 - 3 with a 3.73 ERA after he took the loss his last time out.  In that start, Archer worked 7 innings and surrendered just a run on 5 hits with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts.  But his offense never got on the board and Archer’s great start was wasted.  Even without some help from his offense, Archer should be able to post better numbers than in 2013  when he was  9 - 7 with an ERA of 3.22 in 23 starts. 

Last season, Archer was 0- 2 with a 7.00 ERA in 2 starts against the Mariners after giving up 8 runs on 13 hits (including 4 homers) in 9 innings.  Despite those numbers, he has held the current Mariners to a .250 average with 8 hits, 3 home runs and 7 RBIs in 32 at-bats.
