Rookie pitcher Roenis Elias will be going for his third win when he and the Seattle Mariners go up against Jesse Chavez and the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night.

Roenis Elias had his best start as a Major League pitcher last Thursday against the New York Yankees when he was able to get his second win of the season. He pitched a season-high seven innings in the win and gave up just one earned run on six hits while striking out 10 and walking two. His ERA went down about a half a run to 3.09 and he now has 31 strikeouts in 35 innings.

No one on the A's has faced Elias more than twice, but they have struggled collectively against him by getting just one hit in 13 at-bats.

Jesse Chavez continued his great start to his first season as a regular starter for the A's by beating the Texas Rangers last Wednesday and picking up his second win of the season. He pitched seven shutout innings in that outing and allowed just one hit while striking out eight and walking one. He has a fantastic 1.89 ERA on the year and has allowed just 28 hits in 38 innings.

John Buck is the only Mariner who has hit a home run off of Chavez. Corey Hart is 2-for-7 against him with two RBI and two strikeouts.
