34-year-old veteran pitcher Chris Young will try to have a good first start for the Seattle Mariners when they face Dan Straily and the Oakland Athletics on Friday night. Young dealt with injuries in 2013 and never made it up to the majors while with the Washington Nationals. He did make nine starts in the minors, though, posting a 6.81 ERA over 37 innings of work. If he's healthy this season, the Mariners will be hoping to see the control pitcher that Young was known for being back in his healthy seasons.

Surprisingly, Young has only faced two players on the A's current roster. Coco Crisp has six career plate appearances against the tall righty, getting just one hit and striking out twice. Nick Punto has done a bit better agianst him by getting three hits in six at-bats.

Dan Straily made 27 starts for the Athletics in his first full season in the majors. He was able to post a decent 3.96 ERA and struck out 124 batters in 152.1 innings. Considering that it was his rookie year, Oakland management was probably happy with those numbers and will be hoping to see more from him this season. Straily ended up getting the fourth-most AL Rookie of the Year votes in 2013.

Seattle third baseman Kyle Seager has seven career plate appearances Straily and has hit .400/.571/1.000 with two walks and a home run. Robinson Cano has faced him six times and has three hits against the righty.
