On Tuesday, James Paxton (4-1) will go for his third win in four starts when he and the Seattle Mariners go up against Sonny Gray (13-7) and the Oakland Athletics.

Second-year starter James Paxton pitched 6.2 scoreless innings against the Texas Rangers last Tuesday and came away with his fourth win of the year. He gave up just four hits in that start and walked three batters while striking out four. Paxton lowered his ERA to 1.83 with that win and he has struck out 33 batters in 39.1 innings this season.

Paxton will be going up against the A's for the first time in his career on Tuesday. So far this season, he has held left-handed hitters to a .200 batting average while right-handed hitters are batting .224 against him.

Right-hander Sonny Gray pitched well in his outing against the Los Angeles Angels on the road last week and ended up with a no decision. He gave up three runs in seven innings of work that day while walking three hitters and striking out six. Gray currently has a 3.03 ERA on the year and he has given up 7.8 hits per nine innings.

Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano is 3-for-9 against Gray in his career with a double and two RBI. Outfielder Dustin Ackley is 2-for-10 against him with a walk and three strikeouts.
