Former Cy Young award winner Felix Hernandez will be going for his fifth win in a row on Monday when the Seattle Mariners go up against David Phelps and the New York Yankees.

Felix Hernandez picked up his seventh win of the season last week against the Los Angeles Angels after pitching 8.2 innings and only allowing one earned run. He gave up just four hits in that outing and struck out nine while walking two. Hernandez is now 7-1 on the year with a fantastic 2.57 ERA and he has only given up three home runs in 84 innings.

Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira has done very well against Hernandez over the years by going 19-for-64 with four doubles, five home runs and nine RBI. Ichiro Suzuki is has just two hits in 11 at-bats against him with four strikeouts.

Third-year starter David Phelps lost his second game in a row last Tuesday when he was beaten by the St. Louis Cardinals. He went six innings in that game and allowed five runs (three earned) on eight hits while walking two and striking out five. Through 40 innings this season, Phelps has struck out 38 batters and has a 3.38 ERA.

Veteran John Buck is the only player on the Mariners who has gotten a hit off of Phelps by going 1-for-1 against him with an RBI.
