James Paxton will be making his fifth career start for the Seattle Mariners as they take on Hector Santiago and the Los Angeles Angels Wednesday night. Even though James Paxton didn't spend too much time in the majors last season, he did show that he has the talent to make it at the highest level. In his four starts, he went 3-0 with a 1.50 ERA and he struck out 21 hitters in 24 innings of work. He will be trying to keep his perfect record going in his first start of the 2014 campaign.

The only Angels' player that Paxton has faced so far in his career is David Freese, who just moved over to the Halos from St. Louis this past offseason. The third baseman has one hit in two career at-bats against Paxton.

Hector Santiago started 23 games for the White Sox last year and was able to put up some decent numbers. He only won 4 of his 13 starts, but his 3.56 ERA seems to suggest that it had more to do with his team than his abilities as a pitcher. He will need to improve his 4.3 BB/9, though, if he wants to have a successful 2014 season.

Santiago has faced the Mariners' new star second baseman Robinson Cano six times and has struck him out once and hasn't given up a hit to him yet.
