Right-hander Felix Hernandez (14-5), who has a 1.29 ERA in his three September outings, will make the start for the Seattle Mariners on Thursday night when they take on Jered Weaver (17-8) and the Los Angeles Angels.

Felix Hernandez pitched well enough to get the win in his outing against the Oakland Athletics last Saturday, but all he could get out of that game was a no decision. He gave up two runs in seven innings that day and struck out eight batters without walking anyone. Hernandez currently has an excellent 2.14 ERA on the season and he has only given up 15 home runs in 219 innings.

Angels outfielder Mike Trout is has a .383 batting average through 47 at-bats against Hernandez with three doubles, two triples and two home runs. Josh Hamilton is just 11-for-65 against him with 10 walks and 21 strikeouts.

Jered Weaver took the American League lead in wins last weekend by defeating the Houston Astros at home. He pitched seven innings in that start and gave up just one run on four base hits while striking out a season-high 12 batters while walking just one. Weaver lowered his ERA to 3.50 with that win and he has only given up 179 hits in 200.1 innings.

Mariners first baseman Justin Smoak is 10-for-34 against Weaver with three doubles, three home runs and eight RBI. Veteran Endy Chavez is just 3-for-20 against him with two walks and five strikeouts.
