On Tuesday night, rookie Roenis Elias (10-12), who has a 2.08 ERA in his last nine starts, will be on the mound for the Seattle Mariners when they face Cory Rasmus (3-1) and the Los Angeles Angels.

Last Tuesday, Roenis Elias pitched six solid innings against the Houston Astros at home and ended up with a no decision. He gave up just one run on six base hits in that start while striking out four batters and walking two. Elias has struck out 142 batters in 160.2 innings this season and he currently owns a 3.81 ERA.

Angels first baseman Albert Pujols has two hits in six plate appearances against Elias with a home run and two RBI. Outfielder Collin Cowgill is 2-for-6 against him with a double and three strikeouts.

Cory Rasmus made just his third start for the Angels last week and finished with a no decision after pitching 3.1 innings against the Texas Rangers on the road. He gave up one run on three hits in that game while walking no one and striking out three. On the season, Rasmus now has a 2.80 ERA and he has struck out 47 batters in 45 innings on the mound.

Mariners first baseman Justin Smoak is hitless in two at-bats against Rasmus with no walks and two strikeouts. None of the Angels have faced Rasmus more than four times in their careers.
