On Monday night, Hisashi Iwakuma (14-7), who is 5-1 with a 3.63 ERA in his last seven starts, will be on the mound for the Seattle Mariners when they take on Matt Shoemaker (15-4) and the Los Angeles Angels.

Last Wednesday against the Houston Astros, Hisashi Iwakuma could only make it through 4.1 innings and ended up losing the game. He gave up four runs on six hits in that start while walking two batters and striking out six. He now has a 3.11 ERA on the season and he has only walked 0.9 batters per nine innings.

Angels second baseman Howie Kendrick has seven hits in his 19 at-bats against Iwakuma with three doubles. Outfielder Mike Trout is just 4-for-22 against him with a walk and six strikeouts.

Last week, Matt Shoemaker beat the Texas Rangers on the road for his 15th win of the season. He went 6.2 innings in that outing and gave up just one earned run on seven base hits while walking no one and striking out two. Shoemaker has been able to strike out 119 batters in 128.1 innings this season and he has a solid 3.16 ERA.

Mariners outfielder Michael Saunders has one hit in three at-bats against Shoemaker in his career with a walk, a home run and two RBI. Justin Smoak is hitless in five at-bats against the right-hander with a strikeout.
