Saturday afternoon, the Seattle Mariners and Chris Young will take on the Kansas City Royals and Jason Vargas. Young makes his 14th start and 15th appearance as Vargas makes his 16th start.

Chris Young got the win his last time out and that improved his record to 6 – 4 with a 3.40 ERA.  In that start, Young pitched 6 scoreless innings and allowed just 4 hits and a walk while striking out 6.  Young is on the comeback trail after missing the 2013 season after undergoing surgery to repair a nerve condition that was putting pressure on his shoulder. 

The big right-hander comes into this start having beaten the Royals earlier this season.  In that outing, Young allowed just a run on 3 hits in 8 innings of work.  He didn’t issue any walks while striking out 3.

Jason Vargas notched another win in his last outing and that took his record to 7 – 2 with a 3.25 ERA.  In 7 innings of work, Vargas gave up 2 runs and 7 hits while walking 2 and striking out 4.  Vargas is well ahead of last year’s pace and should easily surpass 2013’s 9 - 8 record and 4.02 ERA in 24 starts for the Los Angeles Angels.

Last season, Vargas was 2 - 1 with a 2.11 ERA in 3 starts against the Mariners.  This season, Vargas has a win over Seattle after throwing 7 scoreless innings and allowing just 3 hits while striking out 6.
