Rookie starter Roenis Elias will try to pick up his seventh win of the year for the Seattle Mariners on Sunday afternoon when he goes up against Yordano Ventura and the Kansas City Royals.

Left-hander Roenis Elias won for the sixth time this season when he was able to beat the San Diego Padres at home. He went seven innings in that outing and gave up just one run on three hits while striking out six and walking zero. Elias has been able to limit opposing hitters to just 78 hits in 92 innings and he has struck out 80.

Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar is a perfect 2-for-2 against Elias in his career and he is the only player on his team to hit a home run off of the lefty.

22-year-old Yordano Ventura picked up his third win in a row in his start against the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday after pitching seven strong innings. He gave up three earned runs in that game and was able to striking out four while walking two. Ventura has done a good job of keeping the ball in the ballpark this season, allowing just six home runs in 77.1 innings of work.

Brad Miller has not been able to get a hit against Ventura in five at-bats, while Mariners second baseman Dustin Ackley is 1-for-4 against him with a solo home run.
