Wednesday afternoon, the Seattle Mariners will give the ball to Hisashi Iwakuma as they take on the Atlanta Braves and Mike Minor. Both pitchers will be making their 7th starts of the season.

Hisashi Iwakuma took his 2nd straight loss in his last outing and that took his record to 3 - 2 with a 3.09 ERA.  In that start, Iwakuma surrendered 5 runs on 8 hits (including 2 homers) in 6 innings of work.  He walked 2 while striking out 5.   Iwakuma has had a rough last few starts and might not be able to match last year’s results when he went 14 - 6 with a 2.66 ERA in 33 starts. 

In 2013, Iwakuma didn’t face the Braves and has only faced 2 of the hitters on Atlanta’s roster in his career.  Ryan Doumit is 1 for 11 against Iwakuma and B.J. Upton is 1 for 3 with a home run.

Mike Minor comes into this one with a 2 – 3 record and a 3.41 ERA after pitching to a no-decision in his last start.  In that outing, Minor surrendered just a run on 7 hits in 7 innings without issuing any walks and striking out 3.  But he still missed getting the decision.  In 2013, Minor was 13 – 9 with a 3.21 ERA in 32 starts. 

Last season, Minor didn’t face the Mariners and has only opposed 5 Mariner batters in his career.  Of those 5, only 2 have hits off the left-hander.  John Buck is just 1 for 14 with a homer and 2 RBIs while Logan Morrison is 5 of 19 with a homer and 5 RBIs.
