After easily winning the NL wild card game, the San Francisco Giants will send Jake Peavy to the mound on Friday afternoon to face Stephen Strasburg and the Washington Nationals.

Jake Peavy had 32 starts this season and finished with a decent 7-13 record. However, his numbers since coming to the Giants have been better than that: 12 starts, 2.17 ERA and just 1.9 walks per nine innings. He is coming into the playoffs with a lot of momentum on his side after going 3-0 in five September starts five starts with a 1.44 ERA.

The Nationals will be facing Peavy for the first time this season on Friday. First baseman Adam LaRoche has done well against the right-hander in his career by going 5-for-14 with three home runs and seven RBI.

Stephen Strasburg may not have been as dominant this year as some people expected, but he was still one of the better starts in the National League. He made 34 starts this season went 14-11 with a 3.14 ERA and a 1.121 WHIP. In 215 innings, he had a league-leading 242 strikeouts while only walking 43 batters.

Strasburg faced San Francisco twice this year and went 1-0 against them with a 5.40 ERA. Giants catcher Buster Posey hasn't been able to hit a home run off of Strasburg yet, but he is 5-for-13 against him in his career with a walk and a double.
