On Sunday, Ryan Vogelsong (8-11) will try to pick up his first win of the month when he and the San Francisco Giants take on Ian Kennedy (11-13) and the San Diego Padres.

On Monday, Ryan Vogelsong lost his 11th start of the year when he was beaten by the Arizona Diamondbacks on the road. He ended up going 5.2 innings in that outing and gave up four runs on six hits while walking four and striking out five. Vogelsong has a 3.98 ERA this season and he has struck out 7.3 batters per nine innings.

Padres outfielder Will Venable has seven hits in 16 plate appearances against Vogelsong in his career with a double and two strikeouts. Seth Smith is 4-for-11 against him with two walks, a double and five strikeouts.

Ian Kennedy picked up his first win of the month last week when he beat the Philadelphia Phillies at home. He allowed three runs in six innings of work that day while walking four hitters and striking out seven. The right-hander has a 3.80 ERA after that win and he has been able to strike out 196 batters in 187.1 innings on the mound.

Giants catcher Buster Posey is 14-for-33 against Kennedy in his career with three doubles and three RBI. Outfielder Angel Pagan is just 6-for-29 against him with a walk and four strikeouts.
