Tim Lincecum will take the mound for the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, May 7, as he tries to pick up his third win of the season. Lincecum and the Giants will be facing the Pittsburgh Pirates, who will have Gerritt Cole on the mound looking for his third win as well.
In his last start, Tim Lincecum faced the Atlanta Braves and earned the win. Lincecum pitched a solid game, going 6 innings and only giving up six hits and one earned run. He struck out 4 batters while giving up three walks. For the season, Lincecum is sitting with a 5.12 ERA which is far above his career ERA of 3.50. However, pitching like he did against the Braves will keep that ERA dropping.
Lincecum has faced Andrew McCutchen 16 times and only given up two hits with one of those being a double and one being a home run. However, the Pirates’ star is only batting .125 against Lincecum.
The last time Cole took the mound he faced the Toronto Blue Jays in a game where he got the no decision. This wasn’t one of Coles better games as he pitched just 5 innings, giving up 7 hits and 4 earned runs with a home run. He struck out 6 and walked one. The offense was able to pick up the slack and save Cole from getting the loss in this one. Cole is sitting at a 3.69 ERA for the season and he'll hope to lower that number when he faces the Giants.
The Giants are hitting .200 as a team against Cole. None of these hits went for extra bases so this may be a great opportunity for Cole to add another win to his total on the season
