In a game that should be a good pitching matchup, Madison Bumgarner and the San Francisco Giants will take on second-year starter Sonny Gray and the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night.

Madison Bumgarner pitched just five innings against the St. Louis Cardinals last Thursday and ended up suffering his second loss in a row and his sixth loss of the year. He gave up five runs (four earned) on six hits in that outing while walking three batters and striking out six. Bumgarner is currently 9-6 with a 3.09 ERA and he has struck out 120 batters in 113.2 innings.

A's infielder Jed Lowrie has just two hits in his nine at-bats against Bumgarner with a walk and three strikeouts. Josh Donaldson is 1-for-3 against him and is the only player on the A's who has been able to hit a home run off of the left-hander.

Sonny Gray had a strong outing against the Toronto Blue Jays last week and came away with his eighth win of the season. He pitched seven innings in that game and gave up just one run on four hits while striking out five and walking three. Gray has struck out 95 batters in 111 innings and has only given up six home runs.

Outfielder Michael Morse is the only player on the Giants who has faced Gray and is 0-for-3 against him with a strikeout.
