On Friday, Ryan Vogelsong (5-8) will be hoping that he can win his first game since back in late-June when he and the San Francisco Giants take on Jonathon Niese (5-6) and the New York Mets.

Right-hander Ryan Vogelsong ended up giving up four runs (two earned) in six innings of work against the Los Angeles Dodgers last Saturday and lost for the eighth time on the season. He allowed eight hits in that game and walked one while striking out four. Vogelsong now has a 3.94 ERA and he has only given up eight home runs in 118.2 innings on the mound.

Mets outfielder Chris Young has hit a home run off of Vogelsong in his career, but he is just 2-for-10 overall against him. Daniel Murphy is 4-for-8 against Vogelsong with a walk and a double.

Last Saturday, lefty Jonathon Niese lost his second consecutive game when he was defeated by the Milwaukee Brewers on the road. He gave up three runs in five innings that day and walked two batters while striking out four. Niese has an above-average 3.23 ERA this year and he is giving up fewer hits than he ever has in his career.

Giants catcher Buster Posey has six hits in 15 at-bats against Niese with two doubles, a home run and two RBI. Hunter Pence is just 3-for-29 against him with four walks and seven strikeouts.
