Thursday afternoon,  the San Francisco Giants will give the ball to Jake Peavy (1 – 11, 4.73 ERA) as they square off against the Milwaukee Brewers and Wily Peralta (13 – 6, 3.52 ERA).  It will be the 23rd starts for both pitchers.

Jake Peavy lost his 2nd straight for his new team and his 11th straight in his last outing.  In the loss, Peavy surrendered 4 runs and 4 hits in 7 innings.  He didn’t issue any walks while striking out 4.  Peavy can’t seem to keep the opposition off the scoreboard and that is a big reason why he hasn’t won a game since late-April.  It’s hard to believe that this is the same pitcher that went 12 - 5 with an ERA of 4.17 last season in 23 starts for the Chicago White Sox and the Boston Red Sox.

Last season, Peavy didn’t face the Brewers but he has seen the lineup before.  Milwaukee is batting .224 with 22 hits, 2 home runs and 5 RBIs in 98 at-bats.

Wily Peralta won his 4th straight start his last time out after allowing 2 runs and 5 hits (including a homer) in 6.2 innings.  He walked 4 while striking out only 3.  Peralta has been money in the bank for the Brewers this season and is 8 – 1 in his last 10 starts. The young righty has greatly improved on his results from last season when he posted a record of 11 – 15 with a 4.37 ERA in 32 starts.

In 2013, Peralta was 1 – 0 with a 5.23 ERA in 2 starts against the Giants.  San Francisco is batting .282 against Peralta with 11 hits, a homer and 5 RBIs in 39 at-bats.
