San Francisco Giants pitcher Tim Hudson will attempt to win his first game since June 12 when he goes head to head against All-Star Henderson Alvarez and the Miami Marlins on Saturday.

Tim Hudson gave up six runs to the Oakland Athletics last week and ended up suffering his sixth loss of the season. He pitched 5.1 innings in that outing and gave up nine hits while walking three batters and striking out four. Hudson still has a 2.87 ERA on the year, but he is 1-4 with a 6.07 ERA over his last five starts.

Marlins veteran Garrett Jones has 14 at-bats versus Hudson and has six hits against him, including two doubles. Jeff Baker is 1-for-4 against Hudson, but he is the only player on the Marlins who has hit a home run off of the right-hander.

24-year-old Henderson Alvarez had his worst start of the year the last time he was on the mound when he was beaten by the New York Mets on the road. He allowed a season-high six earned runs in five innings of work that day while walking no one and striking out three. Despite that rough outing, Alvarez had a very good first half, going 6-4 with a very solid 2.63 ERA.

Giants outfielder Gregor Blanco has three hits in four at-bats against Alvarez in his career with a triple and three RBI.
