Right-hander Tim Hudson (8-8) will attempt to win his first game in four starts when he and the San Francisco Giants go up against James Shields (10-6) and the Kansas City Royals on Saturday night.

Tim Hudson pitched five decent innings against the New York Mets on Monday, but all he got for his efforts was a no decision. He allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits in that start and struck out two hitters while walking two. He has a very good 2.74 ERA on the season and he has only walked a total of 24 batters in 144.1 innings.

Royals veteran Raul Ibanez has 19 hits in 65 at-bats against Hudson with seven doubles, a home run and seven RBI. Erik Kratz is just 1-for-7 against him with no walks and four strikeouts.

James Shields was able to win his first August start on Sunday when he beat the Oakland Athletics on the road. He pitched eight innings in that start and allowed just two runs on four base hits while striking out two and walking zero. He now has a 3.43 ERA on the year, but he has given up 163 hits in 157.1 innings.

Giants outfielder Gregor Blanco has three hits in four at-bats against Shields in his career with a triple and three RBI. Hunter Pence is 0-for-7 against him with three strikeouts.
