San Francisco Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner (13-8) will try to win his fifth game in six starts on Friday night when he goes up against veteran Jason Vargas (8-5) and the Kansas City Royals.

Madison Bumgarner threw his first shutout of the season on Sunday when he was able to beat the New York Mets on the road. He allowed just two hits in those nine innings of work and struck out 10 batters while walking one. He now has struck out 153 batters in 154 innings on the year and his ERA now sits at 3.21.

Royals veteran Omar Infante has two hits in six plate appearances against Bumgarner in his career, while outfielder Nori Aoki is 0-for-11 against him with no walks and one strikeout.

Lefty Jason Vargas lost his second game in a row last Saturday when he was beaten by the Oakland Athletics on the road. He pitched just 4.1 innings in that outing and allowed seven runs on seven base hits while walking no one and striking out five. His ERA is now up to 3.69 on the season and he has only walked 29 batters in 129.1 innings.

Giants outfielder Michael Morse has hit a home run off of Vargas in his career, but he is just 2-for-10 overall against him with four strikeouts. Pablo Sandoval is 2-for-6 against him with a walk and two strikeouts.
