The Rockies scored a slight upset with an 8-2 series opening win over San Francisco, and they look to do the same to close out the series as Colorado's Tyler Chatwood (1-0) hopes to keep the Giants' Matt Cain (0-3) winless. Cain has pitched well for the most part this season, sporting an ERA of just 2.88 including back-to-back 1 run games that have both resulted in losses. The Giants have scored only 2 runs in Cain's last 20 innings including none in his last two starts.
Cain looks to continue pitching well against Colorado as he did on April 12th. He went 7 innings and allowed 1 run while striking out 8 in what was a 0-1 Giants loss. In 2013 he was 2-0 with a 4.13 ERA largely ballooned by a 6 run outing on May 16th. Cain has had success in his career at Coors Field, going 6-3 in 13 starts despite a 4.16 ERA.
Chatwood found his stuff the last time out, pitching 7 innings against the Phillies while giving up just 2 hits and 1 ER. He had somewhat of a rough outing in his opener against these Giants, giving up 4 ER in 6 innings. But the 4th year player should be fresh in his 3rd start of the year after throwing just 162 pitches so far this year.
Pablo Sandoval might find a prime opportunity to improve on his batting average in the mid .100's as he takes on Chatwood. The Giants 3B is 5 for 12 (.417) with 2 HR against the Colorado pitcher including 1 long ball in their meeting this year. 7 Giants batters have faced Chatwood double digit times but only have a .274 average to show for it.
