San Francisco Giants starter Madison Bumgarner (13-9) is having his best month of the season so far and will look to keep that going on Thursday night when he faces Travis Wood (7-10) and the Chicago Cubs.

Left-hander Madison Bumgarner pitched well enough to get a win over the Philadelphia Phillies last weekend, but he had to settle for a no decision. He pitched seven strong innings in that start after allowing just one run on four hits while striking out nine batters and walking no one. Bumgarner currently has a 3.14 ERA on the year and he has struck out 167 hitters in 169 innings on the mound.

Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro has 10 hits in his 24 at-bats against Bumgarner with a double and an RBI. Young first baseman Anthony Rizzo is just 1-for-8 against him with one walk and four strikeouts.

Last Friday, Travis Wood gave up three earned runs in 5.1 innings of work against the New York Mets and ended up losing the game. Wood allowed four hits in that outing while walking four batters and striking out five. He has given up 9.7 hits per nine innings this season and he now has a 4.86 ERA after that loss.

Giants outfielder Hunter Pence is 6-for-18 against Wood in his career with a triple, a home run and four RBI. Catcher Buster Posey is just 2-for-12 against him with no walks and four strikeouts.
