On Sunday afternoon, rookie right-hander Odrisamer Despaigne (3-3) will try to build off of the momentum from his last start when he and the San Diego Padres face Adam Wainwright (14-7) and the St. Louis Cardinals.

This past Tuesday, Odrisamer Despaigne was able to pitch seven scoreless innings against the Colorado Rockies and picked up the win. He gave up just five hits in that outing and walked two batters while striking out a season-high eight. Through nine starts this year, he has a 2.72 ERA for the Padres and has only given up three home runs in 56.1 innings.

Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday was 1-for-3 against Despaigne the first time he faced him with two RBI. Oscar Taveras went 1-for-3 against him in that game with a home run and two RBI.

Last Tuesday, Adam Wainwright pitched seven innings against the Miami Marlins on the road and ended up taking the loss. He allowed three runs on seven hits in that game while walking one and striking out four. He still has a very solid 14-7 record on tn year and has only given up 133 hits in 169 innings.

Padres infielder Will Venable has just four hits in his 21 at-bats against Wainwright in his career with two walks and four strikeouts. None of the Padres have been able to hit a home run off of Wainwright yet.
