Matt Cain will be trying to end his cold start to the season when the San Francisco Giants face Eric Stults and the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night.

Matt Cain ended his three-game losing streak, but he was still pummeled by the Colorado Rockies last Thursday and ended up with a no decision. He went six innings in that game and gave up a season-high seven runs on ten hits while striking out four and walking three. He's giving up more hits than he ever has in his career and his WHIP (1.323) is higher than it's been since 2008.

Will Venable has two home runs versus Cain in his career, but he's hitting just .220 against him in 41 at-bats. Chris Denorfia has five hits in 13 at-bats against Cain with a double and a triple.

Eric Stults had an okay start his last time on the mound when he faced the Washington Nationals last Thursday. He ended up with the no decision after pitching 5.1 innings and giving up two runs on ten hits while walking none and striking out three. Stults has a 4.15 ERA on the season, but his 5.14 FIP suggests he's lucky that his ERA is that low right now.

Outfielder Hunter Pence has a .286 batting average and three home runs in 28 at-bats against Stults in his career. Stults still hasn't been able to figure out Pablo Sandoval, who has gone 12-for-24 against the lefty with three doubles, one triple and three RBI.
