Saturday afternoon, Eric Stults (8 – 17, 4.42 ERA) gets the call for the San Diego Padres as they square off against Jake Peavy (7 – 13, 3.78 ERA) and the San Francisco Giants.   It will be the 32nd starts of the season for both pitchers.

Eric Stults turned in a solid performance in his last outing as he took home the win.  Stults hurled 6.1 innings of shutout ball and allowed just 7 hits and a walk as he struck out 5.  Stults has been up and down in his last few trips to the hill and is 5 -4 in his last 10 starts.  In 2013, Stults made 33 starts en route to an 11 -13 record with an ERA of 3.93. 

Last season, Stults was 2 -2 with a 5.91 ERA in 6 starts against the Giants.  This season, he is 2 - 1 in 3 encounters with San Francisco.

Jake Peavy had a good start his last time out but didn’t get the decision.  Through 7 innings of work, Peavy surrendered 2 runs on 4 hits (including a home run) as he walked a batter and struck out 4.  Since coming over from the Boston Red Sox in July, Peavy has been a solid contributor for the Giants.  He is 6 - 4 in his 11 starts for San Francisco.  Last season, Peavy was 12 -5 with a 4.17 ERA in 23 starts for the Chicago White Sox and the Red Sox.

Peavy didn’t face the Padres in 2013 and has only faced 4 of the San Diego hitters before.  Jeff Francoeur has the most experience against Peavy and owns a .344 average with 2 RBIs against the veteran right-hander.
