On Friday night, Ian Kennedy (12-13), who has a 1-1 record with a 4.44 ERA this month, will be on the mound for the San Diego Padres when they face San Francisco Giants right-hander Ryan Vogelsong (8-12).

Ian Kennedy won his second start in a row last Sunday when he was able to beat the San Francisco Giants at home. He went 6.2 innings in that game and gave up just two runs on five hits while walking one and striking out five. Kennedy currently has a 3.76 ERA on the season and he has struck out 201 batters in 194 innings of work.

Giants catcher Buster Posey has 15 hits in 36 at-bats against Kennedy in his career with three doubles and three RBI. Pablo Sandoval is just 11-for-48 against him in his career with two walks and 10 strikeouts.

Last weekend, Ryan Vogelsong lost his second consecutive start when he was defeated by the San Diego Padres on the road. He pitched five innings in that outing and gave up four runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out five batters and walking one. The right-hander now has a 3.96 ERA on the year and he has given up 172 hits in 179.1 innings.

Padres outfielder Will Venable has eight hits in 19 at-bats against Vogelsong in his career with a double and just two strikeouts. Seth Smith has five hits in 13 at-bats against him with two walks, two doubles and five strikeouts.
